Strictly Steppers Review
1. Strictly Steppers.jpg

Sundays in my family are usually a day for worship service, shopping after church, a big soul food dinner, and resting up for the following work week. But lately, my Sunday's have also included spending time with my steppin' family. Last Sunday, I attended Strictly Steppers 2nd year anniversary where club members Roy Shannon, Sylvia, and Otis were celebrating their birthdays. Other members of the group are Big Henry and Ice Mike, who deligently worked as the DJ for their party. Continuously pumping out good music, it was hard to get him to come down and take a group picture.

A slew of people were out on this cold November night and burbank Manor quickly became jammed packed. I sat with DJ "Smooth" Roy Shannon and his family. Joining in to the celebration were his son Ken Roy Shannon, his sister Renee, 2 cousins Tonette and Unita, brother Sheldon and his wife Genise. They made me feel like family sharing stories from past years of stepping.

I'm always meeting interesting people and Tonette was one of them. We chatted away about her gourmet coffee business, Organo Gold. My morning beverage is usually tea, but I've recently started indulging in this flavorful bean, and her company took my full attention away from steppin'. Peaches and Tabitha brought my attention back, by dancing so vivacously and full of life. Also full of luster, enjoying the evening and celebrating with their birthday's were Charlotte (A True Steppers Connection) Fred (Just Us) Jenny (Cliff's class) and Mrs. Mary.

Everyone loves freebees so instead of the usual free buffet, the club gave out 2 drink tickets to their guests. This was one of the nice incentives that will get me to return again along with a great party with friendly, attentive and unpretentious club members.

Dave Maxx gives the keys to "Walking." According to Maxx, "Steppin' is from the Torso down, Walking is from the Torso up. The woman's butt should lead her backwards when she receives the push from the male lead."
