Lana Reid's interview
Like many other things in life,STEPPIN is no different! There are people at the top, middle, and bottom. You get in where you fit in. If you don't like where you fit in, then work on your skill. There is always work that can be done on your end! The key is recognizing what you should be doing. Building a better community, starts with you. The steppin scene is not a pity party, nor is it fair (much like life). And just for the record there are many HEAVY HITTERS that do dance with people that aren't at thier skill level, and come out just to have a good time (DRE), and not try to give a steppin class while they're on the dance floor. Long story short, instead of waiting for your ship to come in, swim out to it.
People's Choice Awards
I logged on 2/10/10 to ChiSteppers People Choice Awards to vote for my favorite instructor and his name is not on that list! LC Henderson name is not on that category and I think he is one of the greatest instructor of all times! Although, there are many great instructors none compare! LC Henderson teaches this dance so that you (the student) can mentallly, physically, and visually learn to step! I have seen men and women from a diverse background learn to step and it is simply because LC Henderson can teach! "Everyone out there that is dancing is not an instructor." That is the most important part to being the best and his name should be on that list asap!

PCA Awards Reply
I agree that L. C. should have been nominated. His class was nominated although he wasn't individually. I would however, like to comment on the statement referencing L.C. that says "Although, there are many great instructors none compare." It's great that you have so much respect for L.C.'s talent, as I do as well, but to say that "none compare" is a major exaggeration. I judge an instructor by the talent that they've produced, and L. C. has produced a lot of good talent. I would however urge you to take a look at the resume of Andre Blackwell (Rello, Stephan, Sha, Tabitha, Shanelle, Me, Shareda); Dave Maxx (Tonya Nash, D. Wills, Karl Lerma and many others); Brian Patterson (basically half the state of California, the Carolinas); Donnie Davis (Monique Salter, Shareda, Lady Margaret) and I could go on and on. Three of L. C's best students give a lot of their credit to others (Tall Rick and Steppin' B acknowledge L. C. but Darrell Davis moreso) and Cliff from my understanding gives a lot of credit to Steppin' B. This is not to take anything from L. C. who has produced so many others like Sarah Teagle, Maisha Diggs, Felicia, Rosa Douglass (helped get her together) and sooo many others L. C. has worked with and helped. L. C's legacy as an instructor is cemented, but those broad sweeping statements have to be challenged. We all have opinions but they should be based on something. Additionally, it's hard to say no one else compares unless you've had an opportunity to learn from everybody, which is unlikely. There are students, for instance, that would leave Dre's class and go to L. C.'s class or Dave Maxx's class because Dre was too hard on them, they couldn't understand his teaching style, or he always played fast music, and there would be students that would come from their class to Dre for many of those same reasons.
In reality, no ONE instructor can take the credit for producing an awesome dancer, because we learn from everybody once we start going out. Instructors are good at giving us a foundation and advancing us to the point where we can go out and explore others, but no one can prepare you to dance with a Tyk Myn or a Ken Amorio or a Dre or LC or Donnie or Maxx or Royce or Westside Mike ... you are in constant training on the floor. They're pointing out to you what you did wrong. Same thing with the ladies ... they tell a man "You're pulling me in wrong," "That doesn't feel right," "That turn was off," "You're too rough," "Slow down," and over time you develop a sensitivity to leading any type of style and then you start building in creativity and then develop your own style. None of that comes from one person and that's why any GOOD instructor encourages their students to go out and dance in a real environment outside of class and/or they invite real dancers/instructors to their class.
... you are right! Notice I
... you are right! Notice I said to "teach!" Teaching is a skill and many do not have that technique. "None compare to teaching...." That's my opinion and yes, I have been to many other classes and have been out on the set well over twelve years. No need to comment. I just want his name added so that I can make my vote to LC Henderson. That's all folks!

Name Added
The name can't be added. I want to make this clear not just to you, but everyone because I've been getting calls ... I DID NOT CHOOSE WHO WAS ON THIS LIST! I didn't choose 1 person. Had I chosen, some of these lists would have looked a lot different. The PEOPLE chose the lists and therefore I cannot change them.
