There are times when I've made mention of or gave a shout out to a birthday recipient and I'm sure they appreciated the love. After a certain age, a birthday party may seem mediocre to some (I overheard someone mention something to this fact), but to others it's the ultimate time to party. Just Us Production's Rochella and Andrea's Sunday, October 19th party (Andrea's birthday) bash was great. From the packed house at the Dorchester, to the wrestling match over who would start the birthday girl's dance, to the burnt chicken grease smoke filtering in from the kitchen, it was a hot night in this place. Ever better, Andrea's uplifted spirit refreshed the room as she gleamed and shined in her glittery gold dress. Ms. Rochella glowed as well in a beautiful lavender dress. DJ Mellow Khris produced good music with sounds I haven't heard in years, but there were too many technical interruptions. I'm not faulting Khris, and steppers didn't seem to mind, as long as he got the music back bumping quickly.
At almost any steppers set in Chicago, you will receive a handful of pluggers and Suave Larry, who has a new club, handed me one more for my collection. I noticed Darrell Davis's name as one of the members and we laughed about how many clubs one person can belong to. I pondered on this question because he is a gentleman of Just Us along with Big Red, Fred, Dave Maxx, Coach, and the sweethearts Toni and Jackie, all of whom are members of other clubs. Since there are no steppin' laws in effect, I guess you can belong to as many clubs as you have the energy to promote.
Overall, I had a wonderful time. Thank you ladies for the invite and the gentle urging that I was missing out on a good party. I will return again.
