Remembing Chic Rick's
Yes I do remember Chic Rick's that was owned by Mr. Ricky real well. I use to go on Wednesday's, Friday's and Saturday nights. They had 4 different areas. When you first walked in there was a jazz band. In a room on the right there was Steppin'. In the back the DJ played R & B, House, Reggae, Rap. Then up stairs there was a Deep House party. Man those were the days. When I would get tired of dancing in the back, I would go to the front and have a cocktail. Mind you I started going to Chic Rick's when I was 19. I know (Fake Id’s were real big back then). I got in though. My brother and cousins used to say that I had my own table because the bouncers new me well. (LOL!!) I still see some of them today and we still talk about those days. Sunday nights was call Drug Dealer (Ooops -- Street Pharmaceutical -- LOL) night. There will neva be another place in the CHI like it. Now a lot of clubs won't even play Hip Hop (formerly Rap) music because the younger generation today don’t know how to just go out and have a good time like we did. I miss those days when the whole club would run to the floor when you would here "To the Beat Ch'all" -- The song was "Ain't No Future in Yo Frontin'" by MC Breed. There was no fighting like there is today because we were so busy having a good time. Those were the days. I know I didn't talk about the Steppin' side but I didn't start Steppin' until 1997 and Chic Rick's had been torned down and made into a parking lot by then. (LOL)

Chic Rick......Sweet Memories
I was a die hard Chic Rick fan. Those were the best years for stepping. The atmosphere was much more laid back and the people who frequented this club came out to dance. The best nights for stepping their was on Thursdays. The Rat Pack had their stepping set on Wednesday but they had a much more diverse crowd. The Thursday night crowd was a 100% stepping crowd. I remember watching Dimples do her thang (she has awesoe footwork). I had the pleasure of meeting so many people during this time and the bond and friendship that we established still lives on. When he closed his doors and moved to 22nd Street, some of the crowd still followed but the atmosphere was not the same.
Thanks Ricky for allowing me to have such sweet memories.
Ricks
I remember Ricks was soooo hot and the place to be that I went to the DMV when I was 18 or 19 with my aunts info who's 10 yrs older than me to get a false ID just to be able to get in and got my other aunts info for my friend who was 1 yr under me but it was well worth it. The line used to be down the street. Just the other day I found of picture I took with the photographer there.
