Chistepper.com is dedicated to both recording and preserving the history of the amazing dance that we refer to as "Chicago Steppin'." The World's Largest Steppers Contest is the most popular and longest running annual dance competition dedicated to the art of Steppin'. We found it appropriate to create a document that records a history of results for this magnificient competition and concommitantly acknowledge those partcipants who have made their mark in Steppin' history by winning, in some form or another, a portion of this prestigious Steppers title.
This project will be updated continuously, with your help, to reflect the most accurate recording of the final results possible. Chistepper.com has recorded the results of this contest semi-consistently since 2005. Contest results prior to this time where gathered from archival contest footage and from the actual contestants that participated. There are a number of blanks that still need to be filled in, and Chistepper.com has a special order on some of Steppin's earlier contests to help fill in all of those blanks as well.
Pay attention to contest prize money, sponsorship when available (coming down the road), and age category considerations. Throughout the years, there have been many changes to the World's Largest Steppers Competition. Consequently, when new skoolers argue that they want the contest to be "like it was back in the day" they will see that there has never been a consistent format for the World's Largest Steppers Competition. The WLSC in 1994 looked a lot different than the one in 1998. In 1994, for instance, they only had two categories ... Original and Freestyle. Original had only 4 places and there were no age categories. The contest prize money totaled $22,000.
Lastly, this document was created as way to ensure that an instructor's credentials in this dance are accurate. Chistepper.com received reports that some individuals were falsifying their contest wins, because prior to this document, there was no way to determine the legitimacy of their claims. We will use these findings as the spring board for a number of comparisons and as way to establish a particular person or set of peoples dominance in the WLSC. If you can find other creative ways to analyze this document and/or you can fill in some of the blanks in this document, please do send your comments to: chistepper@yahoo.com. The WLSC Yearly Steppin' results page can be found in "Community" section of the links above.
