Blast From The Past: Breaking Down The Count
The DC Hand Dancers have made some ventures into the world of Swing dancing, but not to the extent that they have organized themselves (quantified Hand Dancing & certified their instructors & judges), joined the World Swing Dance Council and had their Hand Dance competitions sanctioned by the National Association of Swing Dance Events. Even so, the "wheel" doesn't have to be re-invented, because we are all "Swing" dancers, only with different music.

Bits and Pieces - Wednesday Night Bar Hopping
Wednesday I got a chance to make a few rounds and see how a few of the new hump day promotions were faring. I started off on the Westside with my homey Akeem The Dream, who has a Black Tie steppers set coming up on December 19th (more details to come). Then I headed south where most of the events were poppin' off.
1. Dre and Company's Class - Mr. G's 7pm - 9pm.

Don't They Resemble Pt. 2 - Anne-Marie Johnson & Kiana Moore
Those of you who remember the "Mug Shots" section of ChiStepper, will be able to appreciate the "Don't They Resemble" series. First up we had Tall Rick and Leon, and after Kiana's interview ran yesterday, it struck me that she looked like Anne-Marie Johnson.
I'll never forget the role that Anne-Marie played on the Keenan Ivory Wayans produced flick "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka," where she removed her nails, leg, butt and just about everything else. I guess this explains why Kiana has a pancake back ... she left it on the set of the show. :)

Smokey and T. Pratt: Make Sure You See Him In Concert
Kissy Niecy is the winner of the Celebrity Guess Who Contest.
I had an opportunity to sit in the first row at a Smokey Robinson concert not long ago, and it was an absolute joy. I've been to a number of "old skool" concerts like the Whispers and Maze ft. Frankie Beverly, and although I enjoyed myself, I noticed that they didn't sing the songs most popular to steppers. Not Smokey! He sang "Agony and Ecstasy," "Much Better Off," "What Love Has Joined Together," and so many others that we step and walk to.

An Exclusive Interview w/ Kiana Moore Including Commentary From Tyk Myn
It’s not easy to come up with individuals to interview for ChiStepper. Many of the people being interviewed usually have to have a connection to the steppin' industry in a historical sense, competitive rankings, promotion of the dance through their advanced level of skill, and or the like. I think this may be the very first interview that I have done that meets all of the criteria for a ChiStepper exclusive interview. In her own quiet way, Kiana Moore has paved the way for a lot of women in steppin' … especially in the humble beginnings of Anthony “Tyk Myn” Allen himself.

T. Pratt's Top 10 National Steppers Moments
Vibe Awards 2003: left to right - Jackie Conard, Tony Dow, Margaret Fisher, Sharon Bolden, R. Kelly, Stefan Wipf, Lynette, Christy Latham, Andre Blackwell.
To my knowledge, Steppin’ started garnering national attention in the mid to late 90’s, and captured both national and international attention in the early 2000’s. While some of the attention that Steppin’ received helped the dance grow nationally, much of the attention was criticized heavily by practitioners of the dance. There were those who criticized the national mediums for either neglecting to learn the dance and understand the culture, or for connecting the dance to pimps and other noxious images that poisoned the general "non-Steppin'" public’s view.

Forced To Sit Down
[Editor's Note: In the photo above, I try to make the best of a bad situation. Your boy T. Pratt compares boots with the Godfather of Hip Hop, Russell Simmons.]
Two days from now a year ago, I would rupture my achilles tendon and have to sit on the sidelines for close to 6 months. I remember experiencing an overwhelming feeling of depression. I don't dance nearly as much as I used to, but it's very different when you don't have the choice.

ChiStepper's Pre WLSC Party in Dec. '08 Issue of S2S
ChiStepper.com and Dre and Company’s awesome Pre-World’s Largest party was the talk of the town for weeks following the event. The occasion, which amassed more 1,000 steppers from across the country, is now in the history books. Sister 2 Sister, the country’s #1 African American celebrity magazine, covered the party and a few of the magnificent Steppers who attended in the December 2008 issue (on newsstands now). In the issue, you will also get a glimpse at Faith Evans, T.I.

Maino, T. I., and T. Pratt: Swagga Like Us
lgscott20 is the winner of the Celebrity Guess Who Contest.
After spending time with Maino, the artist who recorded "Hi Hater" and T. I., the Atlanta-bred rapper with the hottest album in the country right now, I was inspired to come back and right the piece "Haters on the Steppers Scene." These gentlemen have faced their fair share of hating, and the solution they offer is to keep going up. Success is the ultimate revenge to those who hate on you.

Strictly Steppers Review
Sundays in my family are usually a day for worship service, shopping after church, a big soul food dinner, and resting up for the following work week. But lately, my Sunday's have also included spending time with my steppin' family. Last Sunday, I attended Strictly Steppers 2nd year anniversary where club members Roy Shannon, Sylvia, and Otis were celebrating their birthdays. Other members of the group are Big Henry and Ice Mike, who deligently worked as the DJ for their party. Continuously pumping out good music, it was hard to get him to come down and take a group picture.
