Al Fresh J is the winner

T. Pratt and the Birdman fly high in any weather! I've always admired Baby's swagger - his unique style of speech and slang. I first met Baby on the set of one of R. Kelly's videos when they were planning the Best of Both World's Tour. This time however, we were both staying at the Ritz Carlton and we went up to his hotel room to chop it up. Baby is even cooler in person than he is on TV.

As most of you already know, the Steppin' Across America contest has been cancelled. ChiStepper.com did receive a call from Merry Green promotions, but due to my travel we haven't been able to talk.

ChiStepper heard from a reliable source that there was not enough out-of-town participation to warrent a contest of this magnitude and that a number of steppers from others cities didn't want to compete against Chicago (for a number of reasons). ChiStepper hopes to be in touch with Merry Green Promotions really soon to get the full scoop and learn of any future plans.

The weekend of July 18-20, 2008 was filled with white parties all over Chicago land. I attended two of the stepper sets, first up on Saturday, was the Majestic Gents proclaiming to be 'the official steppin’ in strictly white' party of the summer at the Willow Brook Grand Ballroom. All the members, Pete, Greg, Lionel (Fish), Mike, Moe, John (VA), Linda and Que (club sweethearts) were in attendance along with a massive crowd of people looking rather spiffy in their white outfits.

Arlicia Johnson has won many contests in her steppin’ days, and is linked to one of Steppin’s most popular figures, Andre “Dre” Blackwell as both his former contest partner and the mother of one his little ones. Although she could be considered one of the absolute best new skool followers ever, her popularity as a stepper has remained under the radar. In what Sha says is a “long overdue” interview, she gives us the scoop on her dancing and her relationship with Dre.

Chistepper receives a lot of requests from its readers to explore relationships in the steppin' world. As a rule, many men and women shy away from getting involved with people on the set for fear of the relationship being exploited in the public eye. Others look at dating on the steppin' scene as a temporary fix to keep from dealing with things on the home front.
