Concert maven Al Kennedy brought a star-studded lineup to the The Venue inside the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana this weekend. The night kicked off with the smooth sounds of 80’s R&B band Atlantic Starr, who sang classic hits like “Am I Dreaming,” “Send For Me,” and “Always.”
Next up was R&B Icon El DeBarge who stole the show singing hits “Stay With Me,” which he flipped into the Notorious B.I.G. version to the delight of his fans. From there El went into “All This Love,” “I Like It,” and “Rhythm of the Night.” El sounded amazing and I could have listened to him for another hour. There were so many hits he didn’t sing like “Time Will Reveal,” his classic ballad “Love Me In A Special Way,” and all of his brother Bobby’s hits from Switch, which I’m sure the crowd would have loved to hear.
Morris Day and The Time closed the show with original drummer Jelly Bean still keeping time on the drums, and original keyboard player, Monte Moir. He brought the crowd to its feet with hits like 777-9311, Gigilos Get Lonely Too, The Bird, and encore track Jungle Love.
In all the concert was great and Al Kennedy’s Concert Management company does an incredible job of bringing classic R&B and Jazz acts to the Chicago area. Next up for Kennedy is the Gladiator Challenge Fitness Expo featuring Dr. Oz, Dr. Ian Smith, and AJ Johnson among others. The date for that event is January 14 and 15th.
